The MIDAS research group was formed 20 years ago with the fundamental goal of performing data analysis for knowledge extraction that can be used for decision making. The recognition as a research group of the UPM was in 2004. The group participates with four doctors.
The techniques and processes cover the analysis of both structured and unstructured data. The group has developed projects about knowledge discovery in databases of different domains and especially in the marketing, aviation, agriculture and health sectors.
In all these sectors the objective is the analysis of the information to extract the knowledge that can be the basis for the design and implementation of smart applications. To perform the data analysis, classical classification techniques (decision trees, Random Forest, Naive Bayes, regression, SVM) are combined with complex network analysis techniques. On the other hand, they not only apply discovery techniques on static data but on moving data (stream data mining).
